Lectures:

  1. Speech
    An important tools for understanding the story of the film
    • Dialogue: Conversation between characters in movie.
    • Voice Over: The voice of an unseen narrator speaking.
  2. Sound Effects:
    • Ambience: refers to the background noise present at a given scene or a location.
    • Hard or "cut" effects: Almost every sound we hear at the movies that isn't dialogue or music is a sound effect.  For example: Train sliding door open and close, foot steps, train moving on tracks, ambience in train etc.
  3. Music:
    Music in movie is to enhance the dramatic narrative and the emotional impact.
(b) Dubbing: 
Or automated Dialog Replacement (ADR), is the process of re-recording dialogue after the filming process to improve audio quality or reflect dialogue changes.

(c) Foley: 
A sound effects technique for synchronous effects or live effects.

Task:
Part 1: Audio dubbing

We were assigned the responsibility of doing audio dubbing for the Disney PIXAR film "Soul" this week. Joe Gardner, a middle school music instructor, attempts to reconnect his spirit and body after they are separated by accident shortly before his big break as a jazz musician. There is no music necessary for this job; simply speech and sound effects are required.

Part 2: Audio Shaping 
For this task, we are required to apply the effects below to the given audio using Adobe Audition. 
  1. Voice of a phone call.
  2. Voice coming from inside of closet.
  3. Voice of big stadium.
  4. Voice of the bathroom.
  5. Underground cave.

Part 3: Sound Design Exercise 3
Download the provided audio clip in Google Drive and try the sound design exercise :
1.  Magnification EXPLOSION sound

Reflection:
Overall, This project was very interesting to me it help me learn about what can I do with my sound even another person's sound. Mr. Martin was very nice and patiently guide us to the right way.
