Final Project: Visual Analysis
Select a design of your choice
• Conduct a visual analysis of the design in about 500 words
DESIGN:
• Produce a work of design, in A4 or A3 size, inspired/influenced by the design you have analysed, or as a reaction to it.
• Write a 150-200 word rationale for your design.
What is Visual Analysis?
Visual analysis is the thorough observation of the formal elements (‘formal’ referring to the visual elements that make up the whole form of the artwork in question) and characteristics of a piece of artwork.

Observation:
The first look at this artwork, it shows it in a portrait way. The center of the artwork easily catches my eyeball. The color of the artwork mainly use in some of the soft color like skin color, grey and adding some gradient effects. It looks very meaningful in my view, the color of this design was very suitable and it's not divided. There were some other graphical elements that put into this composition, such as the transparent square and those seagulls. The background of this composition was a grey empty background. Behind the woman was a circle that adding the gradient effects to catch the audience's attention. Overall, this composition looks very clean for a design, its not a wrong for being a clean design, sometimes clean design can easier to bring out the meaning that the artist wanted to express in their work and at the end of a story what they wanted to let the world understand about it.

Analysis:
At the start, we can list the emphasis on it. The emphasis lets the meaning of this design that are meant to stand out. In most cases, this means the most important information of the design is meant to convey. After that, there was some contrast inside the design too. We can easily see these differences make various elements stand out, contrast is also a very important aspect of creating accessible designs. Insufficient contrast can make text content in particular very difficult to read, especially for people with visual impairments. For example, the woman in the middle has a contrast with the circle. Besides that, it also has balance in the layout design. Symmetrical designs layout elements of equal weight on either side of an imaginary center line, such as the layout of the whole image. Moreover, movement also can easily be founded inside the design. The seagull helps us lead to the next most important and so on, it lets our eye naturally falls on certain areas of the design first. I can also feel peace within the seagull movement. Other than that, it also has proportion on it, this proportion lets us know what the important thing inside this design and what isn't. The larger elements like the woman in the middle are important, smaller elements like the seagull less.

Interpretation:
This artwork named 'nothingness' was made by Julien Pacaud on 2 May 2019. Julien Pacaud is a French artist and illustrator who lives and works in Paris. As his main body of work is a collection of digital collages that bend time and juxtapose outdated technology with visions of the future, it should come as no surprise that Pacaud is obsessed with the idea of time travel. This design was relied a lot on instinct, and what drives what creation was the subconscious of the artist. The artist always needs some kind of clash to intervene graphically and emotionally in his artwork. Playing with different and weird scales of
elements in an image is a way to make these clashes happen. As time travel was always his point of the artwork, so his style of design his artwork we can see was very future way but not mechanic color. This composition was designed in a clean way and make the audience have a lot of image space and this is why I choose Julian Pacaud's artwork reason.
Research:
I did some research from Julian Pacaud for my reference, I was very impressed by those artworks of the space sense and imagined space.

After inspiring some ideas from these artworks, I decided to make something like this but in my own way.
Material:
I have picked a few materials from the internet to complete my work.
I have picked a few materials from the internet to complete my work.
Rationale:
First of all, I wanted to analyze my work. In the middle of the work, we can see a statue sitting on a stone considering and the back of the statue have a pair of white wings. Besides that, there is a beautiful moon behind the statue too, the moon surrounds by a glowing circle and a few cloud effects. The background of the whole object was a gradient background with some texture. At the bottom of the artwork, we also can see a stone staircase.

My personal projects are the ones on which I really enjoy working because I like the freedom that comes with allowing my mind to wander. I don't have a specific message to convey—just my deep inner instinct to explore. Working on commissioned illustrations is more painful for me because I often have to make compromises. For my personal work, I never know where I'm going when I start a piece. To find an image interesting, I think that I always need some kind of clash to intervene graphically and/or emotionally in my images. Playing with different and weird scales of elements in an image is a way to make these clashes happen. I guess that it is also a way to give these characters a kind of mythologic or metaphysical nature.
Reflection:Throughout this whole final project, it was very fun for me. This project let me know more about myself and how I wanted to share my life with a story. I learn that detail can easily make a work sublimate. References really help me a lot in touch with my artwork.
