Illustration & Visual Narrative // Task 1
Lectures:
Week 1 :
First of all, My first impression of Ms. Noranis was so amiable. Before Ms. Noranis start her class she plays some lofi (I think?) music to us. After that, she starts her class and briefly all about Illustration and Visual Narrative, I quite excited about what we gonna learn this semester like, character design, posters, and motion comics.
Week 2:
Ms. Noranis want us to list out our favorite characters of ourself and Ms.Noranis pick a few fellow friend's characters and describe their personality traits. After that, Ms, Noranis let us know about the aspect of characters.
Shapes
Ms. Noranis explain to us what shapes was so important to a characters because shapes establish a character personality. For example, Ms. Noranis use Aladdin for an example like those good characters we can see they have a balanced design like Aladdin, while the bad characters like Jafar have an imbalanced design.
Colors
Colors also can represent the character's emotion like usually good guys always have a brighter color design, and the bad guys usually have darker tones colors.
Visual Techniques
In this week's lecture, we were focused on composition in design and we were shown how it is used in beautiful images or designs. Before we start the class, Ms. Anis ask us a question about why and how those Instagram look so good. The answer is a combination of good Composition and design principles. More specifically, things like contrast, hierarchy, & balance created by the placement of design subjects.
Positive and negative spaces
Figure2.3
After the lecture, we had a practical exercise. We were given 20 minutes to sketch 5 different backgrounds for our vormator challenge in a way that shows composition, negative and positive light, background, foreground, and the mid-ground.
Week 4:
Composition and Perspectives
Types of perspective
Tutorial and Practical
Week 2: Chiaroscuro
This week out practical was on chiaroscuro. Chiaroscuro is the use of light and dark to create 3D volume on a flat surface. Mr. Kannan first gave is examples of this and then explained why chiaroscuro is used.

Week 3:Clipping mask
In this week's practical, we learned about clipping mask. In this session we covered from the basics of clipping mask, creating silhouettes, swatches to making patterns.
Week4: Creating sence
In this week, we learned about how to use pen tool, adding gradient at textures to the object and creating compositions.
Task 1 : Vormator challenge
Ms. Noranis requires us to create our own new character by just using 8pieces of shapes that she gave. This task was quite challenging for me because there are not allow to change the shapes, but except the reason, i also feeling excited to made it

Rough idea:
Digitalize:
I ask Ms. Noranis about the feedback and she chooses the scream for my best idea and wants me to digitalize it. After I finalize my character, I try to add some background for him by using the skill that Mr. Kanan teach us in the lecture class.
Try to make it more hierarchical.
Try to make it more hierarchical.
Final Outcome with the card:
Feedbacks:
- Idea sketches need more exploration more on the design. Mr.Anis love the scream.
